HOW IT WORKS

Open Nearby Lens → tap Scan → the app listens for BLE broadcasts in your immediate environment. When a known smart glasses signature is detected, you receive an instant alert showing the device type, estimated signal strength, and proximity category.

The scan is entirely passive — Nearby Lens never connects to any device. It simply receives publicly broadcast BLE advertisements, the same way any Bluetooth receiver does. No interaction with the target device. No interference. No footprint left.

PROXIMITY ESTIMATION

Signal strength (RSSI) is used to estimate how close a detected device is:

Immediate — under 1 metre

Near — 1 to 3 metres

Far — beyond 3 metres

Note: walls, interference, and device positioning affect accuracy. Proximity is an estimate, not a precise measurement.

Nearby Lens detects BLE broadcasts. If smart glasses have Bluetooth disabled or are in airplane mode, they will not be detected. Detection is based on manufacturer BLE signatures — unknown or uncatalogued devices may not be identified by name, though their signal will still appear.

Can Nearby Lens identify who is wearing the glasses?

No. It detects the device type only — never the person wearing it.

Does it work if the glasses are in a bag or pocket?

BLE signals pass through fabric and most materials, so yes — detection range applies regardless.

Does the scan drain my battery?

BLE scanning is very low power. Foreground scanning has minimal impact. Background scanning uses optimised duty cycles to reduce battery drain.

Will it work in a crowd?

Yes. Multiple devices can be detected simultaneously. Each appears as a separate entry.
